The need for resilient, sustainable backup power technology is growing due to factors that include increasingly severe and frequent weather events, the expanding use of intermittent renewable resources and higher demand for electricity as the economy electrifies.

To meet these challenges, Mexico’s state-owned utility CFE, Latin America’s largest, has deployed GenCell’s backup solution for its DC auxiliary system to support breakers, transformers and switches across some fifty substations. In parallel the solution is backing up CFE’s communications and controls network equipment which enables some 80,000 personnel to communicate across the company.

Power Engineering shares the story following the presentation of GenCell’s CFE case study at the Energy Mix Knowledge Hub at POWERGEN International 2022 in Dallas. To read more, click here.
